Will God Really Give You the Desires of Your Heart?

Did you know that as God’s princess, it is His desire to fulfill the desires of your heart? If that is true (and it is), then why do so many of your desires go unmet?

As women we have a tendency to either strive, settle, or sin to get our needs met.

I know I did—I spent a good part of my life desiring to find the man of my dreams. From as young as I can remember, I would strive to meet men I hoped would sweep me off my feet. Then I’d settle when he didn’t turn out to be what I hoped. Worse, I would sin just to keep him.

This is not how God intends for our desires to be met.

In fact, Psalm 37:4 says that if we take delight in Him, He will give us the desires of your heart. While this is wonderful news, there is a key factor that many neglect—the first half of the verse! “Take delight in the Lord” means to stay soft and to allow God to mold us.

So how do you stay pliable? You begin by applying these three principles:

  1. Renew your mind. Renewing is more than just praying or thinking different thoughts. It’s about going to battle—a battle in your own mind. And it is the only way you will be able to know and to follow the path that God has for you.God can’t and won’t renew your mind for you. That’s where many Christians get tripped up. They expect and wait for God to zap them—to take away old memories and change thought patterns, but that’s not going to happen. It’s YOUR job to renew YOUR mind daily to the Word of God.
  2. Learn to wait at crossroads. There will inevitably be times in your life where you will come to a crossroads and you won’t know which way to go—all the paths look equally promising. Neither one is glaringly against God’s will. What do you do?Handling a crossroads requires patience, tolerating uncomfortable emotions, and listening. When you learn to stay pliable in His hands, you won’t panic when you come to a crossroads. You won’t make impulsive, fear-based decisions. Instead you’ll learn to wait without giving in to the pressures.
  3. Do a double check. When you come to an actual crossroads while driving, (hopefully) you do what the law requires: You look right, left, and ahead. And if you are like most people, you do a double-check just to make sure it’s safe to proceed. This the same as what you should do before you make any decision. The way you double-check is to refer to God’s word. Only when you can line up your options with the word of God will you know which choice is His will.

When you apply these three principles to your walk with God, you open yourself up to getting the desires of your heart met, and your days of having to strive, settle or sin will be a distant memory.

If you have desires in your heart that have gone unmet and needs that have gone unfulfilled, it is possible to change that—if you enlist God’s help. My new book, The Sacred Seven: A Guidebook to Unlocking the 7 Desires God Has Placed in the Heart of Every Woman, walks you through exactly how to do that.

Here’s what one reviewer said:

5.0 out of 5 stars:  A Thoughtful, Open-Hearted and Helpful Book!
I know all too well the grief from unmet desires and the frustration and impatience that comes with many of life’s challenges and obstacles. It’s refreshing to read that some of these desires are unique to women and were thoughtfully and intentionally placed by God to expand our hearts and fulfill our purpose. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who has tried to get my needs and desires met in all the wrong ways, but that there is hope. Thanks for your thoughtful, open-hearted and helpful book, Kris!
