Why Can’t I Find My God Given Purpose

Are you frustrated or discouraged because God hasn’t revealed His purpose for your life?

Do you watch others thriving doing what they love and wonder, “Why not me, God?”

A sense of purpose is the key to a productive and happy life, but it’s not always easy to find.

You may be at a point where you’re wondering if God has a purpose for your life.

Well, He does.

Habakkuk 2:3 reminds us, “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”

If God’s purpose for your life seems to be on pause, don’t fret, your purpose will prevail.

After years of counseling and ministering to people who can’t find their purpose, I have found that there are

4 rock solid reasons that your calling may seem slow in coming.

Reason # 1You don’t pray.

James 4:2 is clear when he says, “You have not because you ask not.”

John 14:13 says that, “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.”

What would be more glorifying to our Heavenly Father than fulfilling the calling He has for our lives?

These scriptures are referring to prayers that are asked in alignment with Gods will and plan for your life. What’s more in alignment than His plan than asking Him to fulfill His plan? This is a prayer you are guaranteed to have answered. So ask!

You may be saying, but Kris, I did pray and I get nothing. I want to challenge you that that’s likely not the case.

If you have been praying, it’s likely that you ARE hearing from God but you are employing one of the next 3 reasons.

Reason #2: You’re too logical.

An important factor to remember when it comes to hearing from God is that it often doesn’t make sense to our logical minds.

But this is where we can slip into dangerous territory.

I have seen far too many people receive a word from God, get excited, and within a week they are back in confusion. Why? Because they applied logic to the revelation.

When God speaks, MOVE. Don’t contemplate, interrogate, or vacillate. Just MOVE.

The Holy Spirit is faithful to guide your steps (Psalm 32:8). But if you are waiting for the entire picture to make sense before you take the next step, you will be waiting a very, very long time.

Reason #3: You’re not willing to give up.

Be honest, if God called you to give up your six-figure job to start a church in the middle of nowhere with no idea how you would earn money, would you do it?

Many say yes in theory, but in reality, they are not willing to give up their comforts for their calling.

I have seen this play out far too often. Just like the rich young ruler in Mark 10, we often say we want to follow after God, but we are unwilling to truly let go and follow Him.

I get it, it’s not easy. When God called me out of a long term, profitable, reputable career as a business owner, I had to do a heart check on more occasions than I’d care to confess. But the words of Matthew rang repeatedly in my heart: “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Are you willing to give up?

Reason #4: You’re trying to be something you’re not.

God created you with a unique temperament, unique experiences, and a unique purpose.

But we often spend more time fulfilling the opinions and expectations of others than we do walking in our God-given purpose.

Trying to live up to the expectations of your father or attend a school simply because of the prestigious name will not step you into your calling.

God isn’t going to modify your purpose simply because you made a promise to Aunt Mae on her deathbed.

Remember, blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. This is not to say that the people in your life are sinners but when they are speaking in opposition to God’s perfect calling, their advice will keep you in confusion instead of stepping into clarity.

Don’t miss your calling in Christ for one of these or any reason. The world needs wh0 God created YOU to be.
