1. God Can’t Be Seen
As humans, we are driven by our senses—particularly by what we can see. We base our financial situation by what we see in our bank account, we evaluate someone’s character based how we see him or her behave. We find it difficult to put our trust on the unseen. And since God can’t be seen with the naked eye, we struggle with relying on Him.
The solution? To receive all of the benefits [link to blog of benefits of having faith in God] of a strong faith, you must begin to take your eyes off of what you can see and focus your expectations on the unseen promises of God. He will never let you down. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
2. We Relish Feeling Like We’re in Control
If you, like so many people, desire to be the master of your domain, you likely struggle with having faith in God because faith requires us to relinquish control to Jesus. Even if you do surrender your life to Jesus, I’m guessing you frequently take the control right back when you perceive that things aren’t moving fast enough or going in the “right” direction.
The solution? Instead of constantly taking back the wheel, ask Jesus if He would allow you to be copilot and trust that He can plot a better, more efficient, more enjoyable course than you ever could imagine.
3. Having Faith Can Feel Foolish
God tells us to come to him with a child-like faith. But having that kind of blind trust—particularly in someone you can’t see—can feel childish, even foolish. How can you overcome that fear and trust the same way a crying baby trusts that loving hands will pick him up? By building a relationship with God. Get to know Him by reading His Word. Then take Him at His Word. That’s faith!
God formed the universe from nothing, He can surely take care of your needs. If you don’t believe me, read His word: “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest, they don’t have storerooms or barns, but God feeds them. And you are worth much more than birds.” Luke 12:24
Whatever you are in need of today, whether it’s a new car, healing in your body or freedom from tormenting emotions, you can trust God to deliver. Having faith in God will never disappoint.
