Have you ever had times in your life where you feel like God is ignoring you?
Perhaps you’re going through a crisis and you feel like He is nowhere to be found. Or maybe you are at a major crossroads in your life and are in desperate need of wisdom.
If He is silent, does it mean that He doesn’t hear you? Could it mean that He does not love you?
No. He hears every one of your prayers and He loves you with a love that words couldn’t describe. If you feel you aren’t hearing from God, there are only five reasons why that might be:
Reason #1: There’s too much noise in your life.
I am amazed by the number of people I hear who say things like, “I would give anything to have a little peace and quiet,” yet when you look at their lives, it’s non-stop chaos. If you have too much noise in your life, it’s likely that God is talking to you but you can’t hear it.
Noise can be internal or external. If you want to hear from God, do what you have to do to create calm both in your soul and your circumstances.
Reason #2: You still haven’t done the last thing He told you to do.
When you choose to follow God, you don’t get to pick and chose what directions to follow. Many times, God will not give you what you’re asking for because you have not followed through on the last thing he spoke to you about.
Has God told you to do something that you’re justifying ignoring? Take care of the last thing He spoke to you about and you will open up the lines of communication once again.
Reason #3: It’s a quiet season.
Unlike reason #1 where you have too much noise in your life, having a quiet season is orchestrated by God with intention. Sometimes these seasons can seem like everyone has abandoned you but, it’s God getting hoping to get your attention. His reasons may vary, but the best thing you can do during this quiet season is seek His face. Proverbs 25 says it is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and the glory of kings to search it out.
Just because you don’t hear from God when you expect, doesn’t mean you have to start questioning your relationship with him. Instead press in even more and show Him that He is worth being sought after. He pursued you, didn’t he?
Reason #4: Sin.
This one seems obvious but I can’t tell you how many Christians I meet who are in sin and wondering why God isn’t speaking to them. Sin separates us from God. Period. There is no rationalization for sin. There is no justification. Just because you may not be suffering consequences, it doesn’t mean that God is pleased. Consider it His grace that you’re not suffering but don’t think for a second that He’s willing to ignore it and continue to speak to you.
Reason #5: You ARE hearing from God but not trusting it.
There are many times I counsel women who are frustrated that they are not hearing from God when it’s clear as day that He is. The problem here is not that God isn’t speaking, it’s that you are rationalizing what you’re hearing. The minute you hear from God, obey. The worst thing you can do is to get in your head and start to ‘think’ about it. This is surefire way to kill any revelation you receive and make it even more difficult to hear from him in the future.
God is not playing hide and seek with you. He loves you and longs to give you the desires of your heart. Review these reasons for His silence to make sure that you are not the reason for the blockage.
