How to Activate the Promises of God in Your Life

I have found that there are two schools of thought among Christians when it comes to the promises of God.

One group will doubt that the promises of God apply to them and live a life void of His blessings.

The other group believes that God’s promises should just happen and life is a matter of waiting.

Neither school of thought is biblical.

If you are struggling to see God’s promises come to pass in your life, don’t worry, you don’t have to stay stuck.

There are three keys that can activate God’s promises in your life.

Key #1: Believe

Faith is the primary key that will unlock many of the promises of God. Faith encompasses many factors:

  • Believing that God is always with you. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand“(Isaiah 41:10).
  • Trusting that He will work all things together for your good. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whohave been called according to his purpose(Romans 8:28).
  • The firm conviction that God can be trusted. He is not a man who would lie. God is not human, that He should lie,not a human being, that He should change His mind (Numbers 23:19a).

Remember, without faith it is impossible to please God, (Hebrews 11:6a).

If you are ready to activate the promises of God, activate your faith. Because with God ALL things are possible (Mark 9:23).

Key #2: Confess

Your words MUST line up with the word of God if you want to activate His promises.

Your mouth can easily undo any blessing God is looking to place in your life. Many times your mouth is moved by your mountains, when, in reality, your mouth was purposed to move your mountains.

Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them (Mark 11:23).

Key #3: Act

The bible says that faith without works is dead (James 2:17).

That means we need to put action to our faith.

Not all of God’s promises are guaranteed. Some are, like 1 Chronicles 16:34, which gives us the assurance that His love endures forever. And His promise to never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). These promises don’t come with any action.

But most of the promises in scripture come with a clause; IF/Then.

For example: John 15:10 shares a condition of God’s rest. “If you keep My commandments, (then – result) you will remain (rest) in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

Even salvation comes with a clause: “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and (if you) believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, (then – result or promise) you will be saved. Romans 10:9.

The promises of God are Yes and Amen (2 Corinthians 1:20). But God’s promises are not passive. In some cases, it will take a mere mustard seed-sized amount faith to activate, but in others, it takes commitment on your part.

Either way, I pray that you believe in your heart, confess with your mouth and do your part. And watch the promises of God come alive in your life.
