“I can’t go on another day.”
It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been walking with God, there is one thing that is certain… you will be challenged in this life.
Your challenges may come in the way of a difficult relationship, scary circumstances, or pressing needs.
But no matter what your struggle is, they can easily rob you of your joy and peace, IF you let them.
If your trust tank is running on empty and your joy pool is depleted, here are some encouraging scriptures that have snapped me out of my funk over the years.
#1. John 16:33.
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Jesus was approaching the end of his earthly ministry and was preparing his disciples for his departure. After having spent years with him, imagine the dismay….Jesus was leaving. Their entire world revolved around him. And now he was telling them that he would be leaving and they would be scattered (vs 32)
The words of Jesus in John 16;33 can bring us the same peace that they brought to the disciples.
Jesus knows the troubles we will face but take heart, he has already overcome.
#2. Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
Have you ever stressed over unanswered prayer? I have.
I remember like it was yesterday when I was ready this scripture that the Lord spoke so clearly to my heart when he said “Daughter, don’t you know that I love you? And if I wanted you to have that thing you are praying for, I would give it to you”
It was in that moment that I realized that God wasn’t denying me, he was protecting me.
So, now, anytime I pray for something and don’t get it, I remind myself that if God wanted me to have it, I would. If he doesn’t, I don’t want it anyway.
#3. John 21:21-23
21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
During this conversation, Jesus was reinstating Peter after the denial and giving him his marching orders. And instead of being thrilled that he was back in the fold, Peter was more concerned with what Jesus would do with John.
You might be saying, how is that encouraging. I find it an encouraging reminder that Jesus has a plan for each of our lives and I don’t have to spend precious time and energy worrying about what someone else is getting. I just need to focus on God’s plan for my life.
This scripture was a game changer for me.
#4. Psalm 89:14
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.”
Have you ever been wronged only to feel like you were wronged all over again by the lack of justice?
In this world, there are many injustices and even the courts can’t always bring us the justice we deserve, but be encouraged, nothing slips past God. He is a God of justice, and he will fight for you.
#5. Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
The same promise that God made to Israel applies to us today. If you are in Christ, you are a descendant of Abraham and God has promised that He will never leave you.
If you’re like me, you’d prefer to avoid the storms of life, but since they are inevitable, I would want no one else in the storm guiding me other than our Heavenly Father.
#6. Ephesians 3:20
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”
The people in your life may be stingy but God is not. I find it encouraging to know that if I can think it or ask of it, then it’s already small potatoes for God. He is not only able to do so much more, he is willing.
