Paul reminds us in Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
And to that I say, thank God. Because in our humanity, we can turn away from God. We may boldly backslide or simply seek solutions elsewhere. But God, in His love, will not give up on you.
Here are 4 signs that God is trying to get through to you.
1. Your reactions are called out
Your reactions reveal what’s going on inside of you. You may be able to hide your feelings and your thoughts but eventually, they will come out in your reactions.
I’m talking about the reactions that are outsized and inappropriate for the circumstance. These can be reactions of anger, insecurity, fear, selfishness… the list goes on.
But when God reveals these reactions to you it’s because He wants you to deal with it so He can heal it. The psalmist, David, said it best in Psalm 139:23-24:
“Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Have you ever noticed that others get away with things you can’t? It might seem unfair, but the truth is, God has a greater purpose for your life and the thoughts behind the reactions have to be renewed in order to move you forward. Remember. God is more concerned with your character than your comfort. He will not leave His children in ignorance.

2. You experience closed doors
When God wants to prevent you from going down the wrong road, He will often close the door to that possibility. This can be frustrating because, from our eyes, this door can look like an amazing opportunity. But Isaiah 46:10 reminds us that only God knows the end from the beginning. That means that He knows things we don’t know.
However, many think that just because a door is open, that it’s God giving the green light. This can be reckless. Many years ago, a friend of mine stepped into an adulterous relationship simply because all the doors were opened, so she assumed it was good with God.
God’s open doors will never contradict his Word.
And when you experience a closed door, be encouraged, many are designed to remove distractions that would take you away from His perfect will.
3. You notice repeated words
Have you ever seen the same scripture several times in a short period, or had several different people say the same message to you? This can be God repeating Himself to get through to you.
God will repeat himself for a few reasons. One is confirmation (Hebrews 2:4). The other is, you’re simply not getting it.
Confirmation is what you get when you’re attuned to Him; repetition is what you get when you’re ignoring him.
We see God repeating himself on numerous occasions in the Bible, whether He’s telling us 20 different times to submit to Him, or over 365 times to fear not, God will often repeat himself when He is trying to get through to us.
Much like the patience you have with your children when you repeat the same instructions multiple times, God will do the same for you. He will find a way to get through to you. Whether it’s through a prophetic word, another person, or His written word, He will use whatever and whomever necessary to get your attention. However, just like with children, it’s always best if you listen the first time.
Just remember, God’s repeated word will never contradict his written word.
4. You’re having meaningful dreams.
“For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.” — Job 33:14-18
God will often use the quietness of sleep to speak to our souls. Whether He’s trying to bring correction, warning, or prophesy, God has used this method of communication many times in scripture. Whether he was speaking to Joseph, father of Jesus, to marry Mary and then again to flee to Egypt, or to Abimelech to warn him of Sarah, or Jacob’s well-known dream of the ladder to heaven, God will often use this wonderful form of communication to get through to people, believers, and non-believers alike.
If you’ve been having dreams, pay attention. It’s likely God is trying to communicate something to you.
