If the Devil Can’t Get to You, He’ll Send a Narcissist and Use These 6 Tactics to Destroy You

The devil’s mission is clear: to steal, kill, and destroy.

You may have every door locked, every window secured, and all alarms set, but what do you do when Judas is already inside the house?

What do you do when your relationship struggles aren’t just difficult, aren’t just destructive, but downright demonic?

Do these narcissists even know they’re agents of evil?

Here’s the truth: the enemy knows your weak points. When he can’t access you directly, when he’s blocked from the front door, he’ll send someone who already has the keys—a narcissist. That’s why understanding how to biblically deal with a narcissist is crucial to breaking free from their manipulation.

In today’s blog, we’re uncovering six demonic tactics the enemy uses through the narcissist to destroy you—and, more importantly, what you can do to protect yourself. By the end of this, you’ll see with crystal clarity what’s really happening behind the scenes.

Trapped in the Maze

Picture the enemy’s tactics like an elaborate maze—not the fun kind with maps and clear paths, but a dark, deceptive labyrinth designed to trap you. Every turn feels like progress, yet somehow, you’re further from freedom than when you started.

At first, it seems comfortable—familiar, even. You think you’re getting closer to your dream relationship, but with each step, you’re drawn deeper into chaos, confusion, and destruction.

Let’s shine a light on these tactics so you can recognize them and escape the maze. Understanding how to biblically deal with a narcissist will empower you to fight back with God’s wisdom.

1. Confusion and Doubt

The first tactic feels deceptively familiar, like walking in a fog that gradually thickens until you can’t see clearly. Narcissists are masters of gaslighting, twisting truth and making you doubt your reality.

You start second-guessing yourself, over-explaining, and retracing your steps, believing if you just “fix” yourself, things will get better. But this is no accident—confusion is the enemy’s deliberate strategy to destabilize you mentally and spiritually.

1 Corinthians 14:33 reminds us: “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” If confusion is reigning in your relationship, it’s a sign the enemy is at work.

2. Emotional Wounds

The enemy’s next tactic is like an old injury being reopened. Imagine walking through the maze and tripping over the same hidden trap again and again. That’s what happens when the narcissist triggers your deepest emotional wounds.

They push the buttons of past rejections, betrayals, or insecurities, keeping you focused on pain rather than freedom.

Psalm 147:3 reminds us: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Healing begins when you shift your focus from the narcissist’s chaos to God’s peace.

3. Bitterness and Resentment

This tactic is the thorny vine that blocks your way out of the maze. Bitterness and resentment feel justified when the narcissist constantly hurts you, but these emotions quietly harden your heart.

Unforgiveness creates a barrier between you and God, leaving you stuck in a prison of your own making.

Ephesians 4:31-32 urges us: “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

4. Spiritual Confusion

The enemy doesn’t stop with your emotions—he goes after your faith. The narcissist becomes the tool to plant seeds of doubt:

  • If God is so good, why are you still stuck here?
  • If God is for you, why do you feel so alone?

The enemy uses the narcissist to distort scripture, twist truths, and derail your faith, leaving you spiritually depleted and doubting God’s promises.

But James 1:5 reminds us: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” Seek God’s truth to cut through the lies.

5. Isolation

The narcissist will isolate you, cutting you off from support systems like friends, family, or pastors. At first, they’ll make you believe they’re all you need. Then, they’ll smear your reputation so others won’t believe you when you cry for help.

Isaiah 41:10 offers encouragement: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

6. Distraction from Purpose

The ultimate goal of the enemy is to distract you from your God-given purpose. By keeping you entangled in the narcissist’s chaos, he drains your energy, focus, and faith—burying your gifts and calling beneath the rubble of dysfunction.

John 10:10 reminds us: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Recognizing this tactic allows you to shift your focus back to God and His purpose for your life. Understanding how to biblically deal with a narcissist helps you reclaim your calling and step into the abundant life God has planned for you.

Breaking Free

This is not the time to roll over. You can fight back—without stooping to their level. Here’s how:

  1. Pray: This isn’t a Christian cop-out; it’s your most powerful weapon. Ask God for discernment, strength, and protection. Stand firm in His Word, and let Him fight for you. Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
  2. Set Boundaries: Protect yourself emotionally, mentally, and physically. Be firm and consistent, knowing the narcissist may react with anger.
  3. Trust God’s Justice: Let go of the need for revenge or control. Trust that God sees what you don’t and will deal with the narcissist in His perfect timing.

God Wins the Battle

When you recognize the enemy’s tactics, you can step out of the maze and into God’s abundant life. Stay anchored in His truth, fight with His strength, and trust in His justice.
