The Ultimate Summer Reading Guide for Christians

I promised myself this summer that I would take a step back, enjoy the warm air, and catch up on my reading. I’ve had books piling up for the last several months in anticipation of this glorious downtime.

As you get ready for the relaxation of the upcoming months, I’d like to offer a selection of some books that I believe would be a great addition to your summer reading list. Some I’ve had the pleasure to read, others have come highly recommended.

No matter what ‘season of life’ you’re in, summer is always a season for reading. Here are a few books that I recommend for some of the seasons you might be currently going through.

Season of rest

Perhaps you’re like some of my clients and friends who are trading in their loafers and high heels for flip-flops and hitting the beach as much as possible this summer. Laura Caron Thomas wrote a great Christian romantic suspense novel called The Glass Bottom Boat. I’m looking forward to adding this one to my reading list as well.

Season of personal growth

If you’re like my type A friends, you want a book that says, “I intend to use this summer as an opportunity to get ahead.” In which case, I recommend my new book, Make it Matter. It’s a roadmap to living a life of purpose. In it you will find stories, tips, and practical exercises for finding and fulfilling your God-given purpose.

Season of healing

Or maybe you’re like some of my friends and clients who are going through a challenging season in your life. In that case, I recommend Boundaries by Henry Cloud and John Townsend. This classic book will teach you how to take control of your life and not feel guilty saying no.

Season of spiritual growth

What’s a season without a good book to help draw you closer to our loving Father? A favorite of mine is Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer.

Season of transition

Check out Sarah Geringer’s book, Newness of Life: Trusting God in Times of Transition. Sarah writes with such warmth that you feel like you’re sitting down to have tea with a friend.

So what’s in my beach bag, you ask? I love all book business and Biblical. But right now, I am in a season of learning. (Actually, I don’t know when I’m NOT in a season of learning. Lol.) So I’ve got these 3 books lined up to kick off my summer:

  1. Carriers of the Glory. This book, written by David Diga Hernandez, walks you through how to become a friend of the Holy Spirit. I love his ministry and what the Lord is doing in his life. Definitely check him out.
  2. Understanding the Dreams You Dream, by Ira Miller. As I journey through my theology dissertation on how God speaks to us in dreams and visions, this book is both spiritual and practical.
  3. Choose, by Ryan Levesque. I love how this book causes you to think of your business in a new and exciting way. He guides you through the common mistakes online businesses make and how to “choose” the right market for you.

Which books will you add to your reading list? Let us know in the comments.

May God bless you in your season and use these writings to bring you places you’ve never thought possible.
